Stallion Service Auction Rules

The American Trakehner Association is the only Trakehner breeding association in North America recognized by the German Trakehner Verband

Opens February 1, 2025 – Closes February 14, 2025 – No 2nd Round

If you win the final bid, your invoice will be emailed on February 15, 2025 .

This elite collection of American Trakehner Association stallions provides bidders with the opportunity to purchase a valuable breeding while at the same time supporting the ATA. The auction proceeds benefit all ATA members through increased promotion of the Trakehner horse in advertising, event promotion and our awards programs. All ATA-registered foals produced from an SSA breeding are eligible for the ATA Awards programs.

By bidding in the SSA, you agree to these Terms and Conditions, understand that your bid constitutes a legal contract between the bidder, the ATA, and/or the applicable stallion owner. You similarly agree to be responsible for paying for any winning bid. All bids are legally binding and obligate the bidder to the ATA and under any applicable stallion contract, as outlined herein.

ANCILLARY COSTS AND BREEDING CONTRACTS

  1. Auction prices do not include typical additional costs such as shipping and collection fees, and winning bidders will be subject to the stallion owner’s stallion contract for the auction.
  2. By placing a bid on a stallion, you consent to the provisions of any associated breeding agreement and agree to pay any ancillary fees stated in the applicable contract. Information related to those types of ancillary costs and any associated breeding contract are listed in each stallion’s stallion information area under “Fees/Contracts.” Please review this before bidding, as you will be obligated for those costs and subject to the associated contractual terms.
  3. The applicable stallion contracts will govern, but expenses generally range from $100-$450 per shipment (a quick turnaround is more expensive). You may be required to pay a container deposit.
  4. The ATA is not liable for any disputes between the bidder and a stallion owner.
  5. Please read the stallion’s SSA page for additional important information.

Auction Processes and How to Bid

  1. The “SSA AUCTION” button will be available on the ATA home page, ATA Membership home page, as well as from the Events & News main page. Bids must be placed exclusively through the SSA website. No phone, email, mailed, or messaged bids will be accepted.
  2. Send technical questions to the ATA SSA Volunteer Team at [email protected].
  3. Bidders must provide complete and accurate contact information, which will be validated by the ATA Office. Your contact information is kept with the office and not published on the SSA website; your chosen username, however, will be shown to other bidders. For security purposes, your specific IP (Internet Provider) address is recorded with your registration. Bidders must specify their name, e-mail address, full address, and phone number. Once you have registered the office will email you confirmation.
  4. Users who submit incomplete or inaccurate information may be removed from the auction and their bids may be deemed invalid at the ATA’s sole discretion.
  5. The ATA reserves the right to deny bidding privileges to any potential bidder in its sole discretion.
  6. The person bidding is responsible for paying for any winning bids.
  7. Breedings obtained through the SSA are non-transferrable except with the written consent of the stallion owner.
  8. Photos, descriptions, and owner comments for participating stallions may be available on the stallions’ individual websites. If you have questions about a particular stallion, please contact the stallion owner directly; inquiries to the ATA’s office about stallions will result in the bidder being referred to the stallion owner.
  9. Bidders should contact the stallion owner and become familiar with the breeding contract, terms and expenses involved with the stallion service on which they bid. Any guarantees are between the individual stallion owner and the purchaser.
  10. Online Bidding begins on February 1, 2025, and ends on February 14, 2025, at 11:00 PM EST (23:00). Bids must be completed by the auction end time to be valid; bids in process but not made will not be accepted. We encourage bidders to actively review their bids and the SSA webpage as auction is ending on February 14, as bidding usually heats up during the last hours and minutes of the auction.
  11. The initial bid for most stallions starts at $600. The minimum bid increment is $50.
  12. Bids received for a stallion within 5 minutes of the published auction closing time will automatically generate an additional 5 minutes of bidding time for that stallion only. 5-minute bidding extensions will continue from the time of the last bid is received until no further bids are received and the last five-minute window elapses.
  13. Maximum Bids:
    1. When you place a bid, you may also enter your maximum auction bid. You may increase your maximum bid while the auction is live.
    2. If you set a maximum bid and others bid on the stallion, your bid will automatically increase to $50 more than competing bids until your maximum bid amount is reached. Your maximum bid amount is not visible to other bidders. The first person who sets a maximum bid at a particular amount will win any ties.
    3. If your maximum bid is exceeded by another bidder, you will receive an emailed notice so you can bid at higher amounts if you desire. The email is a “no-response” email and responding will not result in an increased bid. It is your responsibility to actively place bids through the website if you are outbid.
  14. Winning bidders will be invoiced via email on February 15, 2025. All payments must be made by QuickBooks invoice, which will require payment by credit card, PayPal, or Venmo. If you are unable to pay using one of these methods, please do not bid.
  15. Payment is due 24 hours after the ATA office sends an invoice for the winning bid. All winning bids are payable to the ATA.

Additional Terms, Conditions, and Recommendations

  • The stallions in the SSA are generally available only via transported fresh or frozen semen, as expressly stated in their respective SSA stallion contracts. Live cover is generally unavailable.
  • No live foal guarantees are offered with this auction, unless otherwise agreed between the bidder and the stallion owner in writing.
  • The stallion services offered in this auction are intended for the 2025 breeding season only. Please contact the stallion owner if you wish to breed in a year other than 2025. Whether to extend a breeding to a later year is solely in the discretion of the stallion owner.
  • Breedings are for one (1) pregnancy only. Mare owners planning to use embryo transfer, ICSI, or any similar process that can result in more than one embryo being produced from an SSA breeding must reach agreement with the stallion owner for any additional embryos/breedings. Additional charges may apply, and liability may result if SSA doses are used for additional breedings without the stallion owner’s permission.
  • Below are some general recommendations for mare owners:
    • Start Early. Stallions may be in training and/or on the show circuit. As a result, they may have defined breeding periods. Before bidding, mare owners should inquire about their schedule. Some stallion managers only collect on certain days of the week, or only a.m. or p.m., and most require 24-48 hours’ notice before shipping. Please plan ahead and keep stallion managers informed.
    • Ensure your mare is fertile and free of infection (have her cultured while in heat). Similarly ensure your veterinarian has the experience and equipment necessary for equine reproduction with transported or frozen semen. Successful conceptions are not guaranteed, even under ideal conditions.
    • It may be wise to have a second mare as backup if your first mare does not check in foal. Lack of confirmed pregnancy does not result in a refund.

The successful bidders are committed to the usual mare care and veterinarian fees and are bound by the breeding contracts for the stallion service they purchase.

The ATA urges bidders to contact the stallion owner and to become familiar with the breeding contract, terms and expenses involved with the stallion services on which they bid. All guarantees are between the individual stallion owner and the purchaser.

NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. All winning bids must be paid by credit card.
Please keep in mind that you need to communicate with the stallion manager to make your breeding successful.
Some stallions have a show schedule. Don’t wait until the day you need semen, but plan ahead and keep them informed.
