Mikado was approved at Neumünster in 1966; he then remained at stud in Germany first for A. Dressler then for Trakehner Gestüt Rantzau until he was imported to the United States in May of 1968. Upon his arrival in North America, he stood at Sankt Georg Farm in Virginia until 1975, then at Lothlorien Stables in Minnesota until 1981. He then moved to Gray Havens Farm, also in Minnesota, where he remained until his death late in 1983. Comments from German Trakehner Stallion Book: His overall appearance is excellent in figure and type; good face; long, naturally elevated neck; muscular hindquarters; well-set hocks. The few foals he produced [in Germany] were good in appearance with solid bone structure and all were good movers.
