Mare Inspections for Arabians (8/98)
NEW OSB MARES (Oct 1998)
It has been our practice to publish a list of mares registered in the ATA's Official Stud
Book during the preceding year in each year's Mare and Foal Issue of THE AMERICAN
TRAKEHNER.
However, during the year from July 1, 1997, to June 30, 1998, an exceptionally large
number of mares were registered in the OSB, probably due to the fact that owners wanted to
avoid having to take them to an inspection site to receive marks as is required now. The
list would have covered a full three pages in the magazine. We thought these pages could
be better utilized with some educational material about the Trakehner and the
accomplishments of our Trakehner horses. The list will, therefore, not appear in the
upcoming Mare and Foal Issue.

MARE INSPECTIONS FOR ARABIANS
As you may have noticed in the inspection results of the Scottsdale, AZ, inspection, an
Arabian mare, Al-Marah Xanthium ox, has been accepted for the TB/Arabian Pilot Program.
This mare, according to Inspection Committee member Dr. Baird, "was a very nice
13-year-old chestnut broodmare with good gaits and a gentle temperament. Although the
footing was soft and deep, she moved with elasticity, balance and impulsion." She
received marks totaling 48.
To enable her to be inspected, her owner, Bazey Tankersley, produced a medical certificate
stating that the mare was free from SCID. Such a certificate is required for all Arabian
and Anglo-Arab mares applying for inspection, and also for Arabian and Anglo-Arab
stallions to be included in the pilot program.
