American Trakehner Association

Requirements for Exceptional Designation

(Revised March 2004)

A system has been developed which will give recognition to the best mares registered in the Official Stud Book or the Preliminary Stud Book of the American Trakehner Association. (This does not apply to Pilot Program mares.) Three categories will exist:

Model Mare
Elite Mare
Performance Mare

1. Model Mare: *M*

This designation will be awarded to those mares which exhibit above average qualities of type, conformation and movement. It deals with external appearance only and gives an indication of the mare's high potential as a broodmare or for competition. It will usually be applied to younger mares, but may be given to mares of any age.

Using the scoring system in which the maximum score is 70 (Type/10; Frame/10, Legs/10; Walk/10, Trot/10, Canter/10; General Impression/10), the mare must have a total score of not less than 56.

2. Elite Mare: *E*

Awarded to those mares which produce outstanding offspring. Minimum requirements will be:

3. Performance Mare: *P*

Awarded to those mares which show outstanding performance in competition.

Minimum documented performance requirements will be as follows:

- BRONZE - *Pb*:

SILVER - *Ps* :

GOLD - *Pg* :

Performances not falling within the above-defined categories are subject to Independent Consideration by the ATA Board of Trustees . All of these awards may be given posthumously. Documentation from official sources (USEF, CEF, USDF, USEA) must be provided together with the application for any of the above designations.

Owners must complete the Exceptional Mare Award Application.  There is no fee.  Please contact the Central Office to find out how to apply for these predicates (which will appear on all papers to be issued that include the respective mare’s name in the pedigree).
